L to R: Nora Nungabar, Bugai Whyoulter and Nora Wompi. Photo: Tobias Titz, courtesy Martumili Artists.

In 2002, while living at Kunawarritji, Bugai Whyoulter welcomed the return of Nora Nungabar and Nora Wompi.

The two Nora’s were already respected artists after spending considerable time at Balgo Mission painting for Warlayirti Artists. They encouraged Bugai to join them and it was this union of Pujiman (bush or desert born) that sparked an extraordinary period of painting for Martumili artists.

Pujiman Wanti is a celebration of these three incredible matriarchs.

The full exhibition can be viewed on the Paul Johnstone Gallery website.
